Got it for my daughter who wanted it for video but loves taking pictures and imagine my surprise when that horrible noise came on during playback.

Still waiting to hear back from Nikon. My new D5500 has the same problem as did 4 out of 4 in the Camera store, all had the same hiss. I have tested with four different Nikon Lenses. Nikon suggested an external mic but that made the problem worse. DPreview sample videos are great and have seen others with great audio. Does anyone know if this is a setting issue or just a batch of faulty cameras.
